KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry, through the Drug Control Authority (DCA), has given conditional approval for the Covaxin Covid-19 vaccine produced by India’s Bharat Biotech International Ltd for those aged 18 and above in Malaysia.
In a statement issued by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today, he said Covaxin’s conditional approval still requires continuous monitoring of the quality, safety, and efficacy by the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency (NPRA).
“This is in order to ensure that the benefit-risk balance for the vaccine remains positive.”
He said the vaccine will be imported by Averroes Pharmaceuticals Sdn Bhd.
He added that the ministry remains committed to ensuring proper access to the vaccine for the public and to curbing the spread of Covid-19 in the country..
Currently, Malaysia has approved the usage of Covid-19 vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac and CanSino. – The Vibes, February 10, 2022
